The pole mount kit has been internally tested to support up to 100 lbs under controlled conditions with a ZH Series enclosure. Since installation variables and environmental factors can affect performance, a definitive maximum weight rating has not been established. We recommend customers perform their own testing to ensure the kit meets the requirements of their specific application.

The ML Series cover has a waterproof gasket made of transparent silicone that is pre-installed into the groove of the cover. This can make it difficult to see, especially in certain lighting. If it looks like the gasket is missing, try gently pressing into the groove with a non-blunt object, such as a plastic pen cap or the edge of a credit card. You should be able to feel the soft gasket material. It’s easy to overlook visually, but it should be there. Watch our short video for a visual guide.

If you still don’t see the gasket after checking the groove, email [email protected] and include a few photos of your enclosure.

Compatible panels are listed on the enclosure’s product page under the “Accessory Guide” section. If no panel is shown, we do not offer one for that product. For enclosures without panels, most include a PCB drawing in the enclosure drawings found in the “Downloads” section, which can be used to create your own panel.

We don’t install any hardware or components (vents, glands, PEM nuts, screws, PCBs, mounting kits, DIN rails, etc.) prior to shipping. What we can do is machine cutouts, holes, or other features to make your installation process easier. Check out our customization service page for more information.

Our enclosures ship as individual components and do not come pre-assembled, except for our hinged series where the base and cover are attached prior to shipping. Shipping components separately helps prevent damage in transit and allows for easier installation of your components upon delivery.

No, the images on our website are high-quality digital renderings. This allows us to highlight product details without variations caused by lighting, camera angles, or environmental factors. We strive to ensure our renderings closely match the final product. However, slight variations may occur.

With the addition of our new Jaycox facility, Underwriter Laboratories (UL) requires us to indicate where our enclosures (ML, HD, ZH, ZQ, HP) are assembled. This JAY marking is applied at the time the label is applied and does not affect fit, form, or function; it is strictly aesthetic. This is a temporary measure and eventually will be replaced with updated UL stickers.

We do not label or mold our Polycase part numbers into our products. Our enclosures and accessories are designed to allow you to build and showcase your own product. By not including our part numbers, we ensure that the final product is distinctly yours, highlighting your brand and innovation.

UL listed products will have a UL certification sticker, not a Polycase part number. The UL file number is not a unique identifier for a specific product; it represents a certification shared across multiple Polycase series.

You can use the UL file number cross reference below to identify the enclosure potential series and match the product you have.

E352997 is the file number for:
HD Series
HN Series
HP Series
ML Series

Polycase is an ecommerce-based business, our pricing is on the website for stock products. Because of this, we do not provide quotes for these products. Customers are welcome to screenshot the pricing, share the product page URL link, or utilize the ‘share shopping cart’ feature from the cart page.

Please note: All price breaks listed on our website are per shipment. To receive a quantity discount, the full quantity must be ordered and shipped at one time.

Some of our enclosures feature captive cover screws, while others have assemblies designed to function like captive screws. A captive screw is designed to stay in place within an assembly, even when the assembly is taken apart. Captive screws typically have an unthreaded portion below the head. This prevents the screw from being fully removed from the hole, so they can’t fall out or get lost. Captive screws with our metal enclosures may require additional torque.

The following enclosures feature either captive cover screws or assemblies designed to function like captive screws:

Enclosures that are UL-listed must be sold as complete units, as their rating is based on the entire assembly.

What is EMI?

EMI (electromagnetic interference) is the transmission of unwanted, external electromagnetic radiation that creates a disturbance within an electrical or electronic device.

Two Major Types of EMI:

Ambient EMI (Radiated EMI): Originates in other devices (TV, radio) or natural phenomena (lightning strikes, solar magnetic storm.)

Power Quality EMI (Conducted EMI): Originates in various kinds of disturbances and inconsistencies in a device’s power supply (voltage spikes/sags, line noise.)

What Polycase Enclosures Protect Against EMI?

Polycase offers a variety of metallic enclosures that provide an inherent level of EMI/RFI attenuation. Our metallic enclosures are constructed with non-conductive gaskets resulting in less attenuation compared to enclosures constructed with metallic gaskets that yield a faraday cage. Testing the specific enclosure for required EMI/RFI attenuation is recommended.

SA Series: Constructed from 304 stainless steel, rated up to NEMA 4X.

SB Series: Constructed from 16-gauge carbon steel, rated up to NEMA 4X

AN Series: Constructed from ADC-12 diecast aluminum, rated up to NEMA 6P

AL Series: Constructed from ADC-12 diecast aluminum, indoor use only

EX Series: Constructed from anodized 6063 aluminum (extruded) and ADC-12 diecast aluminum end caps, rated IP66

Enclosures rated for temporary submersion should meet NEMA 6 or IP67 requirements to be considered safe for use.

Enclosures rated for complete submersion should meet NEMA 6P or IP68 requirements to be considered safe for use.

Polycase offers a complete selection of submersible enclosures for your waterproof electrical or electronics applications.

Rating Definitions:

IP67: Protection from submersion in water with a depth of up to 1 meter (or 3.3 feet) for up to 30 mins

IP68: Protection from submersion in water with a depth of more than 1 meter

NEMA 6: Protection against occasional temporary submersion at a limited depth. Per UL-50, the 6 Temporary Submersion testing is done at a depth of 6' for a 30-minute period.

NEMA 6P: Protection against prolonged submersion at limited depth in water. Per UL-50, the 6P Prolonged Submersion testing is done at a depth of 6' for a 24-hour period.

Stock part numbers are our regular catalog of products easily searched on our website. Stock parts are off-the-shelf enclosures available for purchase.

Custom part numbers are enclosures that are modified with CNC machining and/or graphics specifically for you, so these part numbers are unique and not found within our regular catalog (custom part numbers start with J-, JG- or G-). Your custom part numbers are found in your account under the "My Quotes & Custom Parts" section.

A popular solution is a process known as solvent bonding, using compounds such as acetone or MEK. The solvent is placed on both surfaces of the parts to be bonded (the outer ridge of the potting box and the inside of the cover). This softens each of the surfaces and causes them to swell. Then, by applying pressure to the two parts and allowing the solvents to evaporate, the two surfaces are permanently bonded. A simpler method is to use Super Glue or any sort of ABS or plastic cement.

Polycase does not supply contacts to wire the VM-Series enclosure batteries In-Parallel. Our contacts are for In-Series. Listed below are part numbers of battery contacts that you can look at to wire the batteries in parallel. You can purchase the contacts from a distributor such as RS America.

Polycase enclosures are available in either aluminum, steel, ABS plastic or Polycarbonate plastic. In general, plastic enclosures will have a reduced recommended operating temperature compared to aluminum and steel. Their properties will change at both low and high temperatures and may no longer be stable. Generally, ABS will have useful characteristics within a temperature range from −20 to 80 °C (−4 to 176 °F), whereas Polycarbonate’s temperature range is from -40°C to 120°C (-40°F to 248°F). However, components of the enclosure (such as a gasket) can still affect the ranges in which the enclosure can operate. Please refer to the ratings (and materials tab) on the product pages for specific details.

There is some bowing that can occur on the walls of the enclosures. This happens as the box cools, after being removed from the molding tool. This is inherent to the design and not considered a defect.

There is a technique that can help you assemble the covers onto the bases. When putting the cover on, put one corner on first and push the cover towards that corner, then press down. This will allow the cover to be easily pressed into place before screwing down. View our short demonstration video here .

The recommended torque on our enclosure screws can be found here.

(7) Ratings and Compliance

Our SK Series and SG Series enclosures are IK08 rated and therefore also meet IK07 requirements.

In addition, several other Polycase American-made enclosure, including the HD, HP, HN, ML, ZH, and ZQ Series, have undergone UL impact testing as part of their certification. UL impact testing is generally more rigorous than IK07 and IK08 standards, so these enclosures are expected to meet IK07 requirements and are highly likely to meet IK08 requirements as well.

Polycase offers a wide selection of NEMA rated enclosures, all of which can be found in our NEMA rated enclosures category. You can filter by the specific rating you need on the left side of the page, and each enclosure’s NEMA rating is also listed on its product page under the specifications section.

IP-rated enclosures have been tested and certified according to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards (IEC 60529) to ensure protection against dust and water ingress. These enclosures carry a specific IP rating (e.g., IP65), with certification often conducted by recognized organizations like UL (Underwriters Laboratories).

IP-equivalent enclosures are noted on the product page as IP Code, and are determined based on their NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) ratings, which are also UL certified. While these enclosures have not undergone formal IP certification, their NEMA rating ensures they meet or exceed the protection levels of corresponding IP ratings.

To confirm whether an enclosure is formally rated or equivalent, please check to product page specifications under ratings.

Categories and Filters will show products with both IP-Code and IP-Rating.  we include products that are either officially IP-rated or qualify based on the conversion. Some products are formally tested to a specific IP Rating, but based on those conversions, they also qualify for a higher IP Code.

    (13) Customization Overview

We do not provide first articles. Instead, you submit your drawings with your order, and our engineering team reviews them and creates production drawings for your approval. Production will not begin until those drawings are approved, ensuring the final product is manufactured to your specifications.

If you'd like to test a prototype before moving forward, you can order a single piece since we have no minimum order quantities. We guarantee the final product will conform to the approved production drawings.

Need help ensuring your components align with your design? We also offer fit-to-sample services, where you send us your components and our engineers create the production drawings for you, eliminating uncertainty before production.

Custom items are made specifically to your specifications, which means slight overages may occur. While Polycase strives to avoid this, we reserve the right to over-ship your order by 1 unit for orders under 25 units, or up to 5% for orders over 25 units, with a maximum of 25 additional pieces. If your order includes compatible accessories, their quantities may also be adjusted to match any overages.

When a customized enclosure is revised, the original version becomes obsolete and cannot be ordered. If you later decide you need to order the original version, we’ll need to set it up as a new custom part.

    This means:

    • A new part number will be created

    • The one-time fees will apply

A fit-to-sample is recommended if you're uncertain about your drawings or unable to provide them. It ensures that your components fit properly into the enclosures by having our team reverse-engineer the design.

The cost typically ranges from $150 to $600. In rare occasions, the cost may extend above this range. The quote surfaces and features may change depending on the submitted components. We’ll ask you to send all relevant components, including circuit boards, custom-machined enclosures, and panel mount connectors. Once we receive your items, we'll confirm the price and proceed with your custom order, returning your parts along with the completed enclosure.

During the fit-to-sample process, we will submit drawings for approval along with any additional notes or questions. You will need to confirm that all the features you believe are required are accounted for. You will also need to acknowledge any notes or questions. Please note that sometimes these sizes and locations will change after approval.

Production drawings are created after a custom order is placed. Polycase will create production drawings from your drawings, upload them to your account for review, and require your approval before starting production. Production will strictly follow our production drawings, so it is critical to verify their accuracy before approval. For the standard 3-week lead time, production files are typically completed within 1-2 weeks. We do not provide first articles.

To find all your custom quotes, log in and navigate to your account. There, you'll find your quotes under "My Quotes & Custom Parts."

If you're part of a company account, your personal quotes will still be under "My Quotes & Custom Parts," while quotes created by your colleagues will be listed under "Company Quotes & Custom Parts." This system helps you easily distinguish between your quotes and those created by your colleagues

These are setup charges applied to the first order of a new custom project. They cover the setup work required by our engineering team to review your drawings, create production drawings, and generate programming files for the machines. You won’t be charged these fees again after the initial order unless you revise the machining or graphics. Any revisions that require engineering involvement will result in new setup charges.

A new custom part is a stock product with your requested machining or graphics, assigned a unique part number and one-time setup fees.

A revision updates an existing custom part and also includes one-time fees. Important Note: Once ordered, the existing version becomes obsolete and can't be reordered.

Polycase values and protects our customers’ privacy. Part of this is protecting our customers’ custom products. In order to purchase a custom product on behalf of your customer, have your customer provide you with the Polycase custom part number, quote number or Polycase drawings. Or your customer can contact us directly to let us know who will be purchasing the product going forward, and to confirm we have their permission to sell this product.

Our standard lead time for customized enclosures is three weeks, provided the unmodified item is in stock. One and two week expedite options are available at an additional cost and are shown on your quote.

The mounting bosses are built directly into the mold. While we cannot change the mold, we can supply the cases without bosses or machine the bosses out. We offer adhesive standoff's so you can place your mounting bosses in the exact location you need.

Alternatively, we can machine countersunk holes in the locations that the bosses are needed. You would then fasten stand-offs to the enclosure with countersunk screws in the machines holes. Then your PCB can be screwed to the top side of the stand-offs inside the enclosures.

We do not offer any custom molding or tool building, we sell off-the-shelf enclosures and we cannot change the shape or size of the enclosures. However, we do offer secondary services to customize your enclosure to fit your needs. We offer CNC machining and digital printing. To learn more about our additional services, visit our customization services page, or get pricing using our instant quote tool.

    (6) CNC Machining

We offer two types of CNC-machined knockouts—tabbed and recessed—that give you flexibility to create access points in your enclosure only when needed.

Tabbed Knockouts: These cutouts are mostly removed, but a few small tabs of material are left to hold the knockout in place. You can easily clip these tabs on-site to create a full thru hole when necessary.

Recessed Knockouts: These are shallow outlines machined into the enclosure wall, reducing the material thickness (typically to about 0.020") without penetrating it. This creates a “breakaway” area that maintains the enclosure’s waterproof rating until you're ready to punch it out.

A feature consists of any size or shape through-holes, countersinks, counter-bores, recesses, bevels, taps, screw tower removals, mounting boss removals, or interior wall thinning.

    For example

    • A simple round hole counts a 1 feature
    • A round hole with a countersink counts as 2 features (1 for the hole, 1 for the countersink)
    • Counterbored holes or threaded holes are also counter as 2 features

Examples of common features are shown below. Non-standard features can be quoted by contacting customer service.

    Common features

Yes, we can machine down the height, or remove, the mounting bosses. Because they are only ¼” tall, often they do not interfere with the desired application, but if they do, they can be machined out or made shorter. Additionally, some of our enclosures are available with or without the bosses.

Because the enclosure covers are created to fit tightly to the enclosure, once the base is machined down the covers will no longer fit. So this is only recommended for potting boxes or applications that do not require a cover.

We can machine any size or shape holes that you needed, on any surface of the enclosure. Polycase design engineers are happy to help you with the design if you need assistance. Based on the board and connectors you use, together we will be able to determine the best locations and sizes of holes that would work for your product.

Polycase can machine virtually any size or shape opening that you may require, however all drawings will be reviewed by Polycase to ensure manufacturability. All square and rectangular cutouts will typically have a minimum corner radius of 0.031" and tolerance on machined features will typically be +/-0.005" and these may increase depending on enclosure selected and feature machined. For components we typically recommend sizing your cutouts to be .040" larger than the component (or .020" for round cutouts). Occasionally, certain features may not be able to be machined or will require a non-standard approach which could increase the machining price. This would be determined when the order is placed. Contact Polycase Technical Support if you have specific questions regarding a machined feature.

    (4) Graphics

Polycase offers several graphics methods, each with its own advantages depending on project requirements.

Digital printing is full-color, also referred to as CMYK, printing that sprays ink directly onto the enclosure and cures it with UV light. Software precisely controls tiny ink droplets to reproduce detailed, photo-quality images with multiple colors and gradients.

Pad printing uses a silicone pad and an etched plate to transfer one color at a time onto a single enclosure. Pad printing is ideal for simple graphics or logos that do not have gradients and for parts with uneven or curved surfaces.

Laser marking uses a focused beam of light to permanently alter the surface of the enclosure or remove a surface coating, creating high-resolution text, graphics, or functional markings. This process is ideal for light colored plastics and powder-coated metals and does not compromise the structural integrity of the material.

A printing template is available in the "Downloads" section of product pages that indicates the eligible areas for pad and digital printing. Laser marking is also eligible in these areas, plus additional surfaces. These include, but are not limited to, areas close to hinges, flanges, and other non-traditional surfaces that printing methods cannot reach.

Our engineering team will determine the best method for your project once you have ordered your quote. Please contact us if you have any questions.

The ink used in the digital printing process is UV cured. The adhesion / scratch resistance of the ink on the plastic is excellent. The ink cannot be scratched off of the plastic without mechanically scratching into the plastic itself. Internal cross hatch cut and tape testing resulting in no ink being pulled up after testing was completed.

Furthermore, after internal testing according to UL Standard UL 61010-1 (Electrical Equipment for Measurement, Control, and Laboratory Use, Section 5.3, Durability of Markings), there was no observable degradation in legibility, smearing or fading of the printing after performing the test.

The ink used in our printing process is acrylic based; UV cured, and is an ink system that is used for labels. It's not labeled as UV resistant because it reacts with, and is cured by UV light. However, the ink can be exposed to UV rays. The ink is commonly used in the sign and banner industries which endure heavy UV exposure. As with any ink, the color will fade over time. You may start to see fading in 2-3 years for typical outdoor applications and 3-5 years for typical indoor applications.

Vector based artwork is required. This includes, but is not limited to, Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, and .pdf or .eps files.

(ACCEPTABLE ARTWORK FILES CHART/ PDF HERE)

Colors will be printed per your electronic artwork file. Artwork should be designed for the CMYK color space. If a PMS color value is requested, the CMYK equivalent will be printed. There may be a color shift in the process depending on the specific spot color. Black, red, and white are the available colors for keypad printing.

When printing is ordered, graphic file(s) with fonts converted to outlines or curves is suggested. If not converted, any fonts that are used should be sent along with the graphic file(s). If a font is not provided Polycase will use Arial.
