What Is a NEMA Enclosure?
The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) is a trade organization that maintains a standard rating system for enclosures, known as the NEMA rating system. These ratings allow designers and manufacturers to easily evaluate an enclosure’s protective qualities. NEMA ratings specify various degrees of protection against environmental conditions. These include everything from light splashing and falling dirt to sleet, corrosion, submersion, windblown dust and other severe hazards.
A NEMA 1 rating, for example, is considered suitable for everyday indoor use and basic protection. NEMA 4X enclosures, on the other hand, are built with heavy-duty gaskets suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, and they also offer corrosion resistance. At the top end of the scale, NEMA 6P enclosures can prevent the ingress of water even during prolonged submersion, making them invaluable for applications such as junction boxes in flood-prone areas.

- Options and Configurations: Many of our enclosure models offer built-in configuration options. These include wall mount flanges, hinged covers and even pre-cut knockouts to accommodate your connectors and cables.
