Steel Enclosures & Boxes

Steel enclosures and junction boxes from Polycase are available in both carbon steel and stainless steel varieties. Our steel electrical boxes are UL Listed, ensuring your equipment is protected in harsh indoor or outdoor environments. Polycase steel enclosures meet common NEMA ratings including NEMA 1, 2, 4, 4X and 12, as well as IP65 and IP66 requirements. Each steel box includes a hinged cover, an internal panel and surface mounting hardware. Optional accessories include pole mounting kits and cable gland and venting solutions.

Should I Choose Carbon Steel or Stainless Steel Enclosures?

Polycase offers NEMA enclosures made from high-quality steel, including 304 stainless steel and 16-gauge powder-coated carbon steel. Both carbon steel and stainless steel are durable and versatile materials for electrical enclosures — but which one offers the benefits you need?

  • Stainless steel enclosures, like our NEMA 4X-rated SA Series, provide the best corrosion resistance available. However, powder-coated carbon steel alternatives like the SB Series also offer corrosion protection.
  • Carbon steel enclosures can be a better choice if you need to customize your enclosure with machined cutouts since stainless steel requires specialized tools to cut.
  • Stainless steel offers better performance in extreme heat conditions than carbon steel. For applications that require resistance to extremely high temperatures, stainless steel enclosures are usually a better choice.
  • Carbon steel tends to be harder and less vulnerable to denting than stainless steel, so it can be a better choice for enclosures on which impact resistance is a priority.
  • Carbon steel enclosures are typically available at a lower price point than stainless steel, making them a cost-effective option for junction boxes and other applications.
