At Polycase, we manufacture our own enclosures, which means we set our own quality standards. These standards are designed and maintained by our team to ensure consistent, reliable, and high-performing products. While we respect your specific requirements, our production and inspection processes follow the expectations we have developed through years of experience. We stand by the quality of what we produce, and we do not define it based on customer preferences or opinions.

We’ve included the following guidelines to help clarify what is considered acceptable and expected in our products:

Gate Marks

A gate mark is a small, visible blemish on the surface of a plastic part where molten plastic enters the mold. It may appear as a slight indentation, raised area, or discoloration. This is a normal and unavoidable part of the injection molding process and is not considered a defect. Gate marks are cosmetic only and do not impact the structural integrity or function of the enclosure. In some cases, gate marks require light trimming after molding. This is a manual process, so there may be minor variations in appearance from part to part. However, these differences are strictly cosmetic and have no effect on performance or durability.

Chips and Burrs

Chips and burrs are a normal result of CNC machining. We take steps to mitigate both as part of our quality process, however minor chips and burrs may remain and are considered acceptable.

Sunshine Effect

If you see a convex arc about 1/2" from the bottom of the base, this is referred to as “sunshine.” It results from the material flow during molding and is part of the design. Sunshine is purely aesthetic, varies slightly by run, and does not affect the performance or durability of the enclosure. Some level of sunshine is acceptable within our quality standards as it helps eliminate other, performance affecting, anomalies.

Wall Bowing

Minor bowing in enclosure walls can happen as the part cools after being molded. This is inherent to the design and is not a defect. For easier assembly, we recommend placing one corner of the cover on first, pressing it toward that corner, and then snapping the rest into place before installing screws. 

Panels

Our internal panels are classified as functional components intended for use inside enclosures. Minor cosmetic marks, such as small scuffs or scratches, may be present and are considered acceptable, provided they do not impact structural integrity or functionality.

Flash

Flash refers to a thin layer of excess plastic that can appear along the edges of molded parts. While we work to reduce and remove it, some flash may be present. As long as it does not interfere with fit, form, or function, it is considered acceptable under our quality standards.

Knit Lines

Knit lines are faint lines or marks that can appear on the surface of a molded plastic part where two flow fronts of plastic meet, typically after flowing around a core during injection. They are most often present next to holes that are molded in the part. They often look like a thin hairline. Knit lines are a normal part of the molding process and are not considered a defect in the part.
