NEMA 1 Enclosures & Boxes

NEMA 1 enclosures provide internal electrical components protection from contact with personnel and solid foreign objects, like falling dirt. NEMA Type 1 electrical enclosures are designed for indoor industrial environments. Polycase NEMA 1 boxes are available in plastic, steel or stainless steel in a variety of sizes.

What Is a NEMA 1 Enclosure?

The NEMA rating system is an industry standard, established by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, that makes it easy to identify an electrical enclosure’s protective qualities. An enclosure with the NEMA 1 rating is designed for indoor use and offers a degree of protection against:

  • Accidental contact with hazardous parts
  • Falling dirt

NEMA 1 enclosures are a common choice for devices that need a tough and resilient enclosure, but don’t necessarily require protection against more severe hazards like rain, sleet, corrosion or windblown dust. However, NEMA 1 boxes also commonly carry more protective ratings that make them suitable for a wider variety of applications and environments.
