NEMA 4 Enclosures & Boxes

NEMA 4 enclosures offer indoor and outdoor solutions for watertight electrical applications. Boxes meeting NEMA 4 standards ensure protection for your equipment in adverse conditions including rain, sleet and snow, as well as, splashing or hose directed water. With a wide range of sizes, from small to large, we make it easy to find the perfect NEMA 4 enclosure solution. Available materials include plastic, aluminum, steel and stainless steel.  NEMA 4 boxes come in a variety of styles including hinged, junction box, pole-mount and more.

The NEMA rating system is used in North American markets to rate the protective performance of electrical enclosures. Using a numerical scale, the NEMA system rates an enclosure’s level of protection against the ingress of harmful environmental factors like windblown dust, splashing water, corrosion and more. What Is a NEMA 4 Enclosure?

NEMA 4 is one of the most common enclosure ratings on the NEMA scale. This rating specifies several important qualities for an enclosure, including:

  • Use of a waterproof and dustproof gasket
  • Protection against weather conditions like rain, sleet and snow
  • Protection against hose-directed water
  • Protection against flying dust, fibers and access to hazardous parts

The waterproof and dustproof features make NEMA 4 enclosures suitable for outdoor use, and you’ll find them in use in all kinds of industrial, commercial and scientific applications. Note that it’s important to differentiate NEMA 4 enclosures from NEMA 4X enclosures. They’re similar in almost every respect, but NEMA 4X enclosures offer additional corrosion resistance.
