Don’t you just love when you wear your favorite shirt and someone says to you, “You look nice today.”? Ok, it begs the question, “Does that mean I look bad the rest of the time?” But really, it’s nice that someone noticed and put forth the effort to brighten your day. This happens to me every time I wear something red. With my Italian coloring, I look dead in yellow, but radiant in red. So I choose to wear red. A lot. (A LOT!)
At Polycase, we think everybody looks good in green. Everyone’s talking about it, everyone’s trying to get in on it. Not everyone is doing something to make it happen.
In honor of Earth Day (April 22, 2010) we decided to share one of our initiatives for a brighter future. We took steps to make our recycling program as easy as possible, so that all employees can participate, without eating up large amounts of production time.
Our local waste services company offers a comprehensive recycling program. In addition to plastic and glass bottles, aluminum or bimetal cans, Allied Waste Services will also help recycle cardboard, office paper, newspapers, magazines, even material from shrink-wrapping. Very little material actually ends up going into our garbage cans, which helps cut down on the costs of our weekly garbage pick up as well as helping less trash end up in the landfills.
Rather than having to hunt down one single recycling center, individual departments and break rooms have large green recycling cans. Each workstation, cubicle, and office is equipped with its very own “Green Can”. Having all of these recycle bins allows employees to simply throw waste materials in the appropriate can: recycle bin or refuse bin. This saves time and money.
What initiatives have you established in your work place? What tips have you found that help turn your Green practices into true Green Habits?
