Whether you are ordering one enclosure for a prototype or sourcing cases for a larger production run, it helps to know what information to check before placing your order. Below are some of the most common questions customers ask before ordering enclosures.
To determine the correct enclosure size, measure the height, width, and depth of your internal components. Compare these measurements against the internal dimensions on the enclosure's drawing. Polycase provides STEP, DWG, and PDF drawings on the product pages to make finding the right enclosure easy.
To find an electronics enclosure by dimensions, use an online enclosure sizing tool to input your required length, width, and height. Since physical shapes and component thicknesses vary, you should always cross-reference your needed dimensions with the product's official engineering drawings rather than relying solely on approximate external sizing. Polycase has a Shop By Size tool to enter your required internal or external dimensions along with advanced filters to instantly narrow your results by material type, application environment, color, and more. Our customer service team can also assist.
If an exact size isn't available, the closest stock enclosure is the fastest and most cost-effective solution. Fully custom molded enclosures require new tooling, making them expensive and a service most manufacturers don't offer.
For outdoor, wet, or heavy washdown environments, outdoor electrical boxes often require a NEMA 4X or NEMA 6/6P rating to ensure water and corrosion protection. Polycase has more than 300 certified waterproof electrical boxes engineered to meet these standards.
