Polycase key fob enclosures are designed to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand. Even though the key fob controls are tiny, the optional battery holders can still cause large amounts of damage if they slide around inside the case. In order to maintain the PCB’s integrity and avoid lasting damage, the battery holder should be soldered to the board. This ensures the holder and battery stay secure.

Don’t know how to solder? Listed below are some helpful tips. While it takes some practice and proper tools, soldering is basically gluing items together using molten metal instead of glue.

Preparing the soldering iron:

  • Place the soldering iron in its stand and plug in.
  • Dampen the sponge in the stand.
  • Wait a few minutes for the soldering iron to warm up.
  • Wipe the tip of the iron on the damp sponge.
  • Melt a little solder on the tip of the iron.

You are now ready to start soldering:

  • Hold the soldering iron like a pen, near the base of the handle.
  • Touch the soldering iron onto the joint to be made.
  • Feed a little solder onto the joint.
  • Remove the solder, then the iron, while keeping the joint still.
  • Inspect the joint closely.
