When Do You Need a Pole-Mounted Enclosure?

Mounting equipment on power poles is a frequent practice in many applications involving outdoor electrical wiring. Power distribution boxes are one obvious example, but many more exist, including traffic signals, outdoor WiFi equipment, circuit breakers, and outdoor lighting systems. To ensure that enclosures fit securely on their poles and that they can stand up to environmental conditions, many device designers specify enclosures made especially for pole mounting.

What to Look For in a Pole-Mounted Enclosure

Although every application is different, there are some common features that most device designers look for in pole-mounted enclosures:

  • Out-of-the-box compatibility with pole mounting kits for easy attachment
  • Weatherproof design, for resistance to conditions like rain, snow, high winds, and flooding
  • NEMA and/or IP rated for protection against water, solids, and potentially other factors such as corrosion
  • Construction from durable materials, often with corrosion resistance
  • Hinged door panels for easy access by electricians and other maintenance personnel

Pole Mounted Enclosures from Polycase

Our pole mount enclosures include features for the easy installation of all kinds of common components and connectors, including PCB mounting bosses and optional DIN rail kits for terminal blocks. Mounting your waterproof enclosure is as easy as finding and installing the pole mounting kit designed to fit with it. Each enclosure series fits with specific kits, eliminating any uncertainty on component sizes and compatibility. Our kits include all necessary assembly hardware and attach quickly to the flat back of our pole mount enclosures, and the stainless steel mounting bands are easily adjustable to fit a large variety of pole sizes from 2" in diameter all the way up to 12".
